Spreading the News

Thank you to Yahoo! Mail for sponsoring this post about staying connected. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

There is little that I hate in this life as much as talking on the phone.

Ok that might be a little bit of an exaggeration, but none the less I am not a big pick-up-the-phone-and-call-someone type of person. I will do just about anything to avoid it. I have been known to search the internet for a business email contact information for hours when a phone number is clearly available.

My aversion to the phone was especially prevalent the day my daughter was born. I was scheduled for a 7:30 c-section but she decided to work on her on schedule and therefore I was up all night timing contractions and trying to decide whether or not to go to the hospital early. She ended up being born at 5:45 and as much as all my friends said they wanted to know the second she arrived I doubt any of them really wanted a phone call before 6:00 in the morning (especially the west coasters).

Enter email.

Thanks to the magic of email I was able to snap a quick picture with my phone and send it off to all of my friends and family all over the country. The best thing about sending out the news via email was getting all the responses the same way. The first few hours after a night of contractions and a c-section are blurry at best. I remember very little of the visitors and conversations I had those first two days in the hospital. Every email that I received however is saved away for me to enjoy over and over again.

I know a lot of people think that email is cold and impersonal but I feel exactly the opposite when I go back and read the responses from my friends to my email announcement of Katelyn’s arrival. I’m glad it wasn’t a phone call that I would have forgotten about in the post baby haze.

  1. I could not agree with you more! I still go back to emails received from family, friends and co-workers and it brings me such joy and brings back memories.
