Chaser
Tonight I tucked you into bed, turned on your Chuggington movie and you said “nigh-nigh” with the biggest grin on your face. As I turned to leave the room you suddenly burst into tears, threw down your owl and grabbed at my arms. As I knelt on the floor next to your crib, hugging your little body close to me to watch a few minutes of cartoons, I thought to myself, it’s no wonder we struggle with bed time some nights.
The past two months have seemed to fly by in record time, every time I turn around you are doing something new. Before I get a chance to properly document and enjoy something you are on to the next new trick. You are finally testing your boundaries by scaling some furniture. At meal times you are sitting at the table like a big kid and properly using your silverware. Ok so the eating with silverware is a work in progress but you’re learning.
In addition to all these new tricks you’ve also developed the smell of a little boy. Faint traces of sweat and dirt mixed with baby lotion, juice and graham crackers. If someone could only bottle that exact smell. Your hands are always sticky and your feet are always dirty. Pavement scrapes mark your knees and there is usually at least a trace of yogurt (or snot) in your hair (or eyebrows).
Unlike last summer you love being outside, you stand at the door, pointing, saying “ow-sigh! ow-sigh!”. You love going for rides, be it on a 4-wheeler, a gator or a golf cart. Every new sight and sound elicits wide eyes and gasping often followed by shrieks of laughter. As much as you love bath time I’m sure that swimming will quickly become a favorite activity this summer.
By far my favorite moments are those spent with you and your sister. I can’t imagine there is a little boy who loves his sister as much as you do. You share all your toys with her and show her how to play with hers. If she drops her binky you are right there to pick it up for her. Her face lights up when she sees you and she always laughs the most for you. Sometimes when you don’t realize I’m watching, you lay down beside her and hold her hand for a few minutes and my heart explodes into a million tiny pieces.
I love you to the moon and back little boy. I hope you always know that.
