I Need an Intervention

In a previous life I laughed when I saw pictures of baby girls whose parents proclaimed their gender with tiny headbands adorned with bows and flowers. You know what they say, you can’t judge what you don’t know (or something like that).

When I found out I was pregnant with a girl I went right out and bought a dress. Actually I bought two dresses. They were so perfect and tiny. One was pink, the other purple. After trying to put a wiggly newborn into a dress I realized that while irresistibly adorable baby sized dresses are also ridiculously awkward and impractical. Crushed, I suddenly understood the appeal of the tiny adorned headbands.

A pretty headband really can bring out the girly girl.

Although I sense a lot more of this face in my future.

  2. Oh my word but she is absolutely precious! And, keep putting headbands and all types of hair accessories in her hair so that she gets used to it and doesn’t end up pulling or yanking them off when she’s old enough to realize something is on her head. I started doing that with my daughter and she very rarely pulls things off her hair and she’s 3 1/2 years old now.

Enjoy your little love bugs (son and daughter) – they are both adorable!

  3. You’re hilarious. I never did the headband thing for the reason you mentioned – I didn’t particularly care if people immediately said, “Oh, I see it’s a GIRL!” (Plus I always worried that the headband would smush their soft little skulls.) And it’s funny, because even when Catie was in head-to-toe pink, I still got, “what a cute little boy you have” comments all the time. People = stupid.

But Nellie might be onto something, because to this day, Catie doesn’t like me to put anything in her hair. She’ll occasionally allow barrettes or pigtails, but it’s pretty rare. I’m honestly fine with that, though, because I’m just too freaking lazy to do her hair every day anyway. We usually just brush & go.

  6. YES! And put them on her now when she’s still to young to make up her own mind and pull them off of her head like mine does EVERY time now. BOO….

    She’s precious. Love these!
