Miss Kate,
My my my little girl, you certainly like to make things interesting. In the past month we have been to the doctor THREE times. THREE. The first visit was just the standard well check visit so I’ll give you a pass on that one, but just that one. The second visit was due to the erosion of your butt. Yes, you read that right, erosion…of your butt. No ordinary diaper rashes for you. We changed your formula and like magic things started to clear up. The you caught your brother’s cold, and it turned into an ear infection, and then you got antibiotics and well let’s just say we’re going through a lot of diapers again.
The change in formula has also seemed to ease your nighttime fussiness and you are, dare I say, starting to develop a routine. You are stretching out the time in between bottles as night, only getting up once to eat. You’re also sleeping in your own bed. Rejoice! I’m breaking all sorts of baby rules by letting you sleep propped up in your boppy pillow with your blanket but alas sleep is sleep and I’ll take what I can get.
I realized today that I have yet to read one single weekly development article since you’ve been born. It’s weird because with your brother I poured over them week after week. I have a general idea of what you should be doing but I’m not going to stress about it. I don’t want to get so caught up in what you should do next that I miss what you’re doing now.
It’s amazing to me how in such a short amount of time you have completely melded into our lives. Your dad, bless his heart, was a little afraid of you at first but he’s like an old pro now. You have him completely wrapped around your little finger and we’ll be in serious trouble when you realize the power you hold. Your brother loves you so much. When you cry he literally starts searching the house room by room for you. He holds your hand when we are all snuggled in the rocking chair and he gives you kisses and loves all day long. I know you won’t always get along but I know that underneath everything there will always be an unbreakable bond there.
With all the pieces of my heart,
xoxo
Mama

Dear Kate Bear,
I’m sorry about your butt erosion. Happens to the best of us. I’m also sorry your mom puts those damn bows on your head. I keep trying to explain your neck isn’t strong enough, but she won’t listen.
Stop looking so confused and start smiling (at me).
See you soon pumpkin,
Love, Heather
